Tutor struggling students

Do you want to help children who are struggling with their school work so they can achieve better grades?
The Bridges Program brings older adults into the classroom to help children who are performing below their grade level. As a volunteer, you will work under the direction of teachers helping children improve their reading, spelling, math, or writing skills by tutoring them two to four hours each week. You can choose the school, grade level, and the days and times you want to work.
In addition to tutoring, you will become a special friend to the child and help them improve their self-esteem, expand their interests, and offer an attachment to school that many children do not have. Volunteers work in 59 elementary, intermediate and high schools throughout the County.
Volunteers must be at least 45 years old, pass a mandatory background check, complete an orientation, and commit to spend two to four hours a week in the classroom. Training is provided on a variety of topics.
