Program DescriptionMake a difference - become a Senior Companion! The Senior Companion Program provides the opportunity for low-income seniors, 60 years of age or older, to serve 20 hours per week assisting frail and isolated seniors in Salt Lake County. Volunteers serve in the homes of clients needing assistance to maintain their independence. Companions also provide respite care to families caring for a love one at home.
Volunteer Requirements To volunteer, you must:
  • Have the ability to serve 20 hours per week
  • Be 60 years of age or older
  • Have a monthly income of $1,128 per month or less for a single person household or $1,518 per month or less for a two-person household
Benefits
  • $2.65 per hour stipend (not considered income and does not affect other entitlements such as subsidized housing, food stamps, Medicaid, etc.)
  • Mileage reimbursement for use of your vehicle or a free monthly bus pass
  • Free annual physical exam
  • Excess accident and auto insurance (only while providing volunteer service)
Training and Support Orientation training is provided to all volunteers prior to beginning service. Volunteers also receive monthly in-service trainings.
