Medicare Part D Enrollment Assistance
For most people enrollment in the newest addition to Medicare - Medicare Part D - began November 15th, 2005 and ended May 15, 2006. For those individuals that are newly eligible for Medicare (initial enrollment period begins three months before the month you turn age 65, and ends three months after the month you turn age 65) or, recently qualified for a Medicare Savings Program or Medicaid, the enrollment period is still open.
To help facilitate enrollment, a screening tool has been developed. This simple, easy to use website was designed to help older adults choose the program that is best for them.
The website is www.medicare.gov. The Medicare website will help navigate and walk you step-by-step through the process of finding out which drug plan will offer you the best coverage. You will be able to personalize your search with your Medicare number (this is a secure website). Personalizing your search will help identify specific information that will help give you better results. You will also be able to choose the pharmacy you prefer or if you want to compare the cost of medication at 2 or 3 different pharmacies you can do that as well. Next you will want to put in your medication. You can be specific right down to the dosages that you take.
The next stage in navigating the website deals with your plan options. Based on the information you have put in, the website will bring up all of the possible plans you can enroll in. Don?t despair if this list appears long. You can sort by plan name, estimated annual cost, annual deductible, monthly drug premium or monthly drug cost, then you can select up to three different plans to compare. Another convenient feature is the ability to enroll online.
Most people have internet access. If you do not, check with your family, friends or caregiver for help with the screening process. If you are unable to get assistance, have high drug costs and low income; please contact us for help with the screening. Be aware that we have many people trying to reach us for help. We will be happy to help, but it may take some time before we get back with you. Our number is: 801-468-2480.
