A Legacy Corps volunteer assists a frail senior The Legacy Corps Program is a partnership between Salt Lake County Aging Services, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the University of Maryland Department of Health Services Administration. The program provides respite to caregivers of frail, older adults.

Legacy Corps members are 18 years of age or older and serve 450 hours during a one year commitment; averaging 10-12 hours per week. Members are provided a living allowance of $2,200 a year.

In addition, if the member completes the full 450 hour commitment in a twelve month period, an educational award of $1,250 is provided. Regular training sessions are held to assist members in learning about the various dynamics of aging and caregiving. Legacy Corps members are carefully screened, interviewed and evaluated. Members MUST COMMIT to a full year of service in the program.
